The Fall portion of this dramatic Friday afternoon series overflows with works for the largest BSO forces including several exciting Germanic masterpieces. From Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring and Mahler’s First Symphony, to Thus Spake Zarathustra and Ein Heldenleben by Strauss, the walls of Symphony Hall will shake for several of these concerts. Juanjo Mena and Yo-Yo Ma perform, Riccardo Chailly and Andris Nelsons lead programs, and violin master Gidon Kremer visits. Wagner excerpts from Die Meistersinger and Haydn symphonies meet Beethoven concerti and an all Brahms program. Charles Dutoit leads the orchestra in Debussy’s La Mer and Dutilleux’s Tout un monde lointain..., for cello and orchestra with Gautier Capuçon to cap of the Fall. A German Requiem by Brahms led by Christoph von Dohnányi begins the Spring portion this series that also features soloists Frank Peter Zimmermann performing the Dvořák Violin Concerto and Till Fellner performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22 in E–flat.
