Winter Vacation at the BSO

This unique program will give children the opportunity to experience the magic of Symphony Hall, get an inside look at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and develop musical skills that will encourage and inspire them to learn a musical instrument. No previous musical experience is necessary!

BSO Teen Council

The Boston Symphony Orchestra Teen Council is a year-long mentor and education program for high school students. The diverse youth that make up Teen Council receive arts access and training while developing useful life skills.

Project Step

The program was spearheaded 25 years ago by the Boston Symphony Orchestra as a means of addressing the under-representation of Blacks and Latinos in orchestras. The founders' idea was to identify and train minority students who did not have ready access to the best available training.

Concerto Competition

Each year the Boston Symphony Orchestra hosts a Concerto Competition for advanced high school instrumentalists who reside in Massachusetts. The Concerto Competition is open to 10th-, 11th-, and 12th-grade instrumentalists who are at the advanced level in their musical study.

Musicians in Schools

Launched in 1994 the Musicians in the Schools program brings BSO musicians and teachers together to create an unforgettable experience for students by developing learning opportunities to help foster a connection, understanding and interest in classical music and the BSO and a deeper understanding of musical artistry. BSO musicians visit their classrooms 3-4 times throughout the school year and culminate their year with a performance.

Workshops for Visiting Ensembles

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is pleased to offer clinics, masterclasses, and sectionals to visiting student ensembles who are attending a BSO or Boston Pops concert during the 2010-2011 season.

Days in the Arts (DARTS)

Each summer, 400 students from communities throughout Massachusetts share a unique opportunity to participate in the DARTS program which provides both exploration and focus in the arts in a supportive, non-judgmental environment. Participants are offered a range of disciplines (music, visual arts, theater, and dance), and each participant selects a particular art form and works in that discipline to develop and complete a project.
