Gabriel Cabezas, 17, has performed three times on From the Top’s radio show, once as a soloist and twice with chamber ensembles. He also performed with banjo legend Bela Fleck in the first season of From the Top’s Emmy Award winning PBS television series. Born and raised in Chicago, he entered the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia this year, where he studies with renowned cellist Carter Brey. He has performed as a soloist with many leading orchestras including the Chicago Symphony and Cleveland Orchestra. In 2006, Gabe won First Prize Junior Laureate of the Sphinx National Competition for black and latino string players. Most recently, Gabe collaborated with Yo-Yo Ma on PBS' "The
