All-Ravel Program Continues
October 5 and 6, 8:00 PM
On October 5 and 6, Maestro Levine leads another all-Ravel program that includes the Tanglewood Festival Chorus, John Oliver, conductor, in the complete Daphnis et Chloé. Mr. Thibaudet returns for Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G, and the orchestra also performs Alborada del gracioso and Pavane for a Dead Princess.
First Recordings of the Boston Symphony Opening Night at Symphony Broadcast
Interviews with James Levine, Susan Graham, and Jean-Yves Thibaudet
At 2PM Sunday on WGBH Radio (89.7 FM and online on the All-Classical HD-2 channel), the BSO on Record presents the first recordings by the Boston Symphony, made 90 years ago, October 2-5, 1917. Preceding these historic recordings conducted by Karl Muck, will be some of rarest and earliest recordings by BSO musicians--'cellist Alexander Heindl (recorded in 1902) the Boston Symphony Trombone Quartet (recorded in 1906) and an extremely rare recording, the only known copy which exists in the BSO Archives of Anton Witek, the BSO concertmaster from 1910 to 1918 (recorded around 1912).
Then at 3PM Sunday, hear the exclusive broadcast of the Boston Symphony's Opening Night concert. The complete all-Ravel program, featuring mezzo-soprano Susan Graham and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet will be presented, with the added bonus of exclusive interviews with Music Director James Levine, and both soloists. Ron Della Chiesa hosts.
