Honegger, Saint-Saëns and Stravinsky
Performance Dates: Thursday, November 12, 2009 10:30am (rehearsal) Thursday, November 12, 2009 8:00pm Saturday, November 14, 2009 8:00pm | Program | Audio | HONEGGER Pastorale d'été | | SAINT-SAËNS Piano Concerto No. 2 | | STRAVINSKY Petrushka (1947) | | Featured Artists Italian conductor Fabio Luisi and acclaimed 21-year-old French pianist Lise de la Salle collaborate in their BSO debuts, performing Saint-Saëns' elegantly virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2 with the orchestra. The Swiss-French composer Arthur Honegger's 1920 Pastorale d'été ("Summer Pastoral") is as lyrical and warm as its title suggests. Stravinsky's Petrushka, a ballet about a living puppet, composed for the Ballets Russes in 1911, helped cement Stravinsky's reputation as the most important and exciting young composer in the world.
The Boston Symphony Orchestra is offering complimentary tickets to active military members to the November 12 Concert in Honor of Veterans Day
In honor of Veterans Day, the Boston Symphony Orchestra will offer complimentary tickets for active members of the military for the orchestra’s November 12 concert. The concert is the first in a two concert program featuring the dynamic Italian conductor Fabio Luisi, chief conductor of the Vienna Symphony and the Staatskapelle Dresden, and acclaimed 21-year-old French pianist Lise de la Salle making their Boston Symphony Orchestra debuts. Ms. de la Salle is featured in Saint-Saëns’s elegant and virtuosic Piano Concerto No. 2. The program also includes the lyrical Pastorale d’été of Swiss-French composer Arthur Honegger and Stravinsky’s landmark Petrushka. Veterans Day, celebrated on November 11, honors nearly 25 million military veterans in the United States today. It is a celebration to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good.
Active members of the military may obtain two free tickets per person by phone by calling SymphonyCharge (617-266-1200 or 888-266-1200), or in person at the Symphony Hall Box Office (301 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston). Tickets are subject to availability.
