Join the Boston Symphony Orchestra in an exciting new era under the leadership of Music Director James Levine and as we launch a major comprehensive campaign. Major Gifts Officers will be responsible for the direct cultivation and solicitation of Boston Symphony Orchestra, Pops, and Tanglewood patrons capable of making gifts and/or planned gifts starting at the $50,000 level. MGOs will collaborate with the principal, major, planned giving and stewardship teams to develop individual strategies and will help ensure that the orchestra’s endowment, capital, and special project funding priorities are met. MGOs will also work closely with research staff and the annual funds team to identify and qualify new prospects and will serve as a key relationship manager for those prospects as the BSO prepares for and executes a comprehensive campaign. Responsibilities include: Reporting to the Director of Major Gifts, develop and manage a portfolio of 150 + individuals in various stages of the development cycle. Meet specific personal goals for qualification, engagement, and solicitation of prospects. Coordinate involvement of board members, volunteers, and BSO management. With colleagues, develop strategic plan and goals for prospects both in Boston, and outside of the Boston area (e.g. Berkshires, New York and Florida). Day and some overnight travel is required. Relocating to Tanglewood for all or part of the summer is a possibility.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree. Minimum of four years development experience, including major and planned giving with a proven track record of closing commitments of $25,000 or more. Experience working with high-level decision makers, trustees, and other volunteers. Excellent social, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Interest and/or background in the arts. Collaborative team player who interacts successfully with colleagues on organizational goals. Excellent verbal/written communication and presentation skills. Knowledge of prospect management systems. Ability to work within electronic environment for solicitation and gift tracking. Knowledge of planned giving concepts and principles. Ability and flexibility to travel and attend concerts and other events, as necessary, to achieve goals.
