Junior Graphic Designer

Description of Position
The Junior Graphic Designer is a member of three-person graphic design team and part of the BSO Marketing Department. S/he is responsible for the execution of assigned projects for the BSO, Boston Pops and Tanglewood brands within a professional design process outlined by supervisor. Design projects produced will follow art direction, brand and sponsorship guidelines, and be on schedule and within budget to deliver work that meets the BSO standards and is part of the overall campaign. Design effectiveness is evaluated on market research information, customer feedback and tracking of response rates. Projects must be completed on or before deadlines indicated in the quarterly production schedule. First drafts of print advertising assignments must be submitted 24-48 hours prior to publication deadline to allow for proper proofing and approval by senior management (more time may be required for sponsor approval). Projects will include work for the BSO Development Department, including brochures, invitations, fliers, signs and collateral pieces. Design projects for other BSO departments including tour materials, Group Sales, Event Services, merchandising collateral, invitations, ticket stock, forms and other materials. This position will offer support to the Art Director and Graphic Designer including execution of designs according to specs, thumbnails or templates the resizing of existing designs, scanning, mounting and trimming, shipping, filing of hard copy and resources, digital archiving, inventory and ordering of supplies. The junior designer will organize and maintain the print ad file. Submit the departments approved ad copy to the sponsorship department and file all hard copy approvals for reference. Participation in weekly staff meeting.

Projects include: Design and/or production of weekly/daily BSO ads for the subscription campaign, single ticket campaign, the Gift Certificate Campaign, and the BSO Chamber Players campaign, and BSO special events. Design and/or production of the weekly/daily Boston Pops ads ensuring accurate and creative representation of the sales information. Design and/or production of Tanglewood print ads for 10 weeks for the New York, Berkshire and Boston markets. Design and/or production of transit ads, taxi tops, banners, billboards, flyers, One, two and four color direct mail pieces, and image 3-sheet posters, graphics for web, etc. Design targeted direct mail pieces throughout the season, prepare in-house signage, typeset documents, and format letters. Design and/or production of BSO subscription mailing pieces including envelopes, order forms, and letters. Production of group sales collateral including brochures, flyers, three-sheets, in-store displays, co-promotion mail pieces, billboards, lamppost banners and posters, etc. Design and/or production of projects for Tanglewood Jazz Festival, Wine & Food Festival and other Tanglewood events. Projects include: print ads, program book, invitations, direct mail materials, flyers, signage and more. All projects must follow art direction to create layouts that meet the requirements of each brand and specifically address the target market for each piece.

Qualifications: Bachelors degree required. Three to five years of professional graphic design experience required. Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects. Must possess extensive knowledge Mac OS, Adobe Creative Suite (including InDesign) and Quark Xpress, knowledge of four-color process separation and printing.
