About the Music

Returning for the second of his two Symphony Hall programs with the BSO this season, Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos is joined by acclaimed Norwegian pianist Leif Ove Andsnes for Rachmaninoff’s gorgeously virtuosic Concerto No. 2. The narrative thread of Strauss’s An Alpine Symphony (1915)—the ascent and descent of a mountain—fired the composer’s imagination for a huge range of wonderful orchestral and compositional effects.
