The Boston Symphony Orchestra and Tanglewood celebrate the 70th birthday of one of the most popular flutists in history, Sir James Galway. Musical surprises especially for the occasion featuring appearances by Michael McHale, Anthony Kearns, Tiempo Libre and Lady Jeanne Galway.
The revered Irish "pied piper" performs Mozart's sparkling Flute Concerto No. 2, with Leonard Slatkin conducting. The program also includes the world premiere of a new BSO commission for flute ensemble by Music Alive Composer-in-Residence Derek Bermel, as well as Debussy's Prelude to The Afternoon of a Faun and Copland's Appalachian Spring. In addition, the evening promises some musical surprises especially for the occasion by notable guest artists.
