Keith Lockhart and singer-songwriter Ben Folds have selected folk band Family of the Year as the opening act for Ben Folds’ upcoming performance with the Boston Pops on Friday, October 2, 2009, at Symphony Hall in Boston. Partnering with Sonicbids.com, Folds and the Boston Pops selected Family of the Year from a pool of over 650 online audio applications, submitted at sonicbids.com.
Family of the Year, established less than a year ago, will release its first EP "Where's the Sun" on September 22. The band, made up of six musicians from diverse backgrounds, includes brothers Joe Keefe (guitar and vocals) and Sebastian Keefe (drums and guitar), and James Buckey (guitar), the three of whom enjoyed local success with the Martha's Vineyard-based raw rock ensemble Unbusted, which was featured in the Edgefest Cafes on June 21 and 22, 2006, prior to the Boston Pops performances with My Morning Jacket.
