The Grammy Award-winning Latin ensemble Ozomatli brings its genre-defying urban blend of Latin music, hip hop, funk, reggae, even Indian raga to the Pops. Winners of several Grammy Awards, the group has performed its unique culture-mashing music around the world, on film and television, and they were designated U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors in 2007. Audiences may recognizie them from Drew Barrymore’s film Never Been Kissed or episodes of Sex and the City, Weeds, and Dancing with the Stars. These performances are Ozomatli’s Boston Pops debut, and continue the orchestra’s tradition of collaborating with the best and brightest new talent on today’s music scene.

Earlier in the evening, Keith Lockhart leads the orchestra to honor the artistic vision of its three most famous Boston Pops conductors – Arthur Fiedler, John Williams, and Keith Lockhart. The concert highlights the extraordinary legacy of Arthur Fiedler (Pops Conductor 1930-79), one of the most beloved figures in Boston history, with a special performance of Leroy Anderson’s “The Typewriter,” featuring a witty film by Dick Bartlett and Susan Dangel. The program continues with music by acclaimed conductor/composer John Williams (Pops Conductor, 1980-93), including selections from E.T., The Extra-terrestrial, Harry Potter and Star Wars. Keith Lockhart (Pops Conductor 1994-present) leads the audience in a sing along to The Beatles: Rock Band, a fully orchestrated new arrangement featuring some of The Beatles’ iconic songs synched to the groundbreaking game design by Harmonix Music (producers of the wildly popular game series Rock Band) projected above the orchestra on the Pops’ 44 foot-wide screen.
