Boston Symphony Orchestra: Explore
Now in its 128th season, the Boston Symphony Orchestra gave its inaugural concert on October 22, 1881, and has continued to uphold the vision of its founder, the businessman, philanthropist, Civil War veteran, and amateur musician Henry Lee Higginson, for well over a century. The Boston Symphony Orchestra has performed throughout the United States, as well as in Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, South America, and China; in addition, it reaches audiences numbering in the millions through its performances on radio, television, and recordings.

Boston Symphony Chamber Players
The Boston Symphony Chamber Players were founded in 1964 so that the Boston Symphony Orchestra could share the unique qualities of a full chamber music repertoire with concertgoers. Eleven Boston Symphony principal players along with guest artists explore this intimate musical genre in concerts at New England Conservatory's Jordan Hall. Tanglewood Festival Chorus
Organized in the spring of 1970 by founding conductor John Oliver, the Tanglewood Festival Chorus celebrated its thirty-fifth anniversary in 2005. This season with the BSO at Symphony Hall, the chorus performs Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem and concert performances of Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra with James Levine conducting, Orff’s Carmina burana with Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Messiaen’s Trois Petites Liturgies de la Présence divine with Seiji Ozawa, Ives’s Symphony No. 4 with Alan Gilbert, and Berlioz’s Te Deum with Sir Colin Davis. more >

Bostonian Henry Lee Higginson's long-standing dream of a great and permanent orchestra in his hometown became a reality in 1881. In October of that year, conductor Georg Henschel directed the first Boston Symphony Orchestra concert. more >
