This new recording tracks the creative evolution of Mozart through a series of five influential symphonies. The first three pieces, Symphonies 14, 18, and 20, were written when Mozart was only fifteen and sixteen years old. Symphonies Nos. 39 and 41, were composed in a whirlwind of creative fervor in a few weeks' time in the summer of 1788, and each is distinctly unique.

Mahler: Symphony No. 6
James Levine is known for having a strong command and awareness of the overlying architecture of large musical works while retaining all of the shimmer and subtlety of the details, and he does just that in this live recording of Mahler’s tragic Sixth Symphony. The live performances of this work from which this album is drawn, along with Levine’s other Mahler performances with the BSO, are widely considered some of the most exciting performances by the orchestra in recent years.
