BSO principal bass Edwin Barker has concertized in North America, Europe, and the Far East. He has performed and recorded with the BSO, the Boston Symphony Chamber Players, and the contemporary music ensemble Collage, and is a frequent guest performer with the Boston Chamber Music Society.

Malcolm Lowe

Concertmaster, BSO

Malcolm Lowe joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as concertmaster in 1984, becoming the tenth concertmaster in the orchestra's history and only its third since 1920. As concertmaster, he also performs with the Boston Symphony Chamber Players.

J. William Hudgins

A native of Texas, Will Hudgins was awarded the Interlochen Center for the Arts’ Joseph E. Maddy Memorial Scholarship to attend the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Mark McEwen

oboe

A native of Saskatoon, Canada, and a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music, Mark McEwen joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra oboe section in September 1996, having previously served as principal oboe of the Florida Orchestra, Music Festival of Taipei and Orchester Staatsbad Meinberg in Germany.

Edward Gazouleas

Violist Ed Gazouleas holds the Lois and Harlan Anderson Chair in the Boston Symphony viola section and is on the faculties of Boston University College of Fine Arts and the Tanglewood Music Center.

Mihail Jojatu

cello

Romanian-born cellist Mihail Jojatu joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra's cello section in 2001 and became fourth chair at the start of the 2003-04 season. Mihail studied at the Bucharest Academy of Music before coming to the United States in 1996.

Ronan Lefkowitz

Born in Oxford, England, Ronan Lefkowitz joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 1976. Mr. Lefkowitz is a graduate of Brookline High School and Harvard University.

Thomas Martin

Thomas Martin is associate principal clarinetist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and principal clarinetist of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Mr. Martin began his professional music career as a clarinetist, saxophonist, and flutist at age thirteen, performing with several big bands and combos in his native Wisconsin.

Toby Oft

Toby Oft joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as principal trombone at the start of the 2008-09 season. The son of music educators, he was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. He started playing trombone with his father Michael Oft at age six.

Thomas Rolfs

Thomas Rolfs is Principal Trumpet of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Boston Pops. He joined the BSO trumpet section in 1991, serving first as 4th trumpet and later as Associate Principal Trumpet.

Elizabeth Rowe

Flutist Elizabeth Rowe joined the Boston Symphony in 2004, where she holds the Walter Piston Principal Flute chair. An accomplished orchestral musician, she held titled positions with the orchestras of Fort Wayne, Baltimore, and Washington, D.C. before joining the BSO at age 29.

Mike Roylance

Mike W. Roylance, born in Washington, D.C., was appointed principal tuba of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in 2003 while finishing his graduate studies at DePaul University in Chicago. He attended the University of Miami and received a bachelor of arts from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.

Richard Sebring

Richard Sebring is associate principal horn of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and principal horn of the Boston Pops Orchestra. Born and raised in Concord, Massachusetts, Mr. Sebring studied at Indiana University, the New England Conservatory of Music, the University of Washington, and the Tanglewood Music Center.

Todd Seeber

double bass

Todd Seeber joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra's double bass section in May 1988. From January 1986 until he joined the BSO, he was principal bass of the Buffalo Philharmonic, which he joined when he was twenty and with which he appeared frequently as a soloist.

Richard Svoboda

Richard Svoboda has been principal bassoonist of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and a member of the Boston Symphony Chamber Players since 1989. He is currently on the faculties of the New England Conservatory of Music and the Tanglewood Music Center.

Jessica Zhou

harp

Born in Beijing, China, Jessica Zhou joined the Boston Symphony Orchestra as its harpist in fall 2009. She was winner of the 2001 Pro Musicis International Award, leading to her critically acclaimed New York debut in Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall.
