World Premieres at the BSO

George W. Chadwick and Georg Henschel were the conductors of many world premieres of the 1880s, beginning with the BSO's first, both composed and conducted by Henschel, Hymne au Createur. The 1890s featured new works by female composers such as Amy Beach's Symphony in E minor Gaelic, and Margaret Ruthven Lang's Dramatic Overture and Armida, Op. 24.

Rubin Goldmark's Overture to Hiawatha, Frederick Converse's Endymion's Narrative, Romance for Orchestra, Op. 10, and Horation Parker's Concerto for Organ in E-flat, Op. 55 all made their debut at the turn of the century.

The first BSO world premiere of the new millennium was Bright Sheng's Red Silk Dance, for piano and orchestra, conducted by Robert Spano.
