Boston Marathon
Members of the Boston Symphony
Orchestra recorded the soundtrack to BOSTON, the
first-ever full-length documentary film about the Boston Marathon,
arguably the world's most prestigious running race. Emmy
Award-winning composer Jeff Beal-perhaps best-known for his score
to the Netflix hit series House of
Cards-composed the soundtrack
to BOSTON, and conducted the BSO players in the
soundtrack recording at Boston's Symphony Hall on Monday, February
13, 2017.
On Saturday, April 15, the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra will perform the full score live at the world premiere of BOSTON at the Wang Center, hosted by WBZ-TV and featuring anchors Lisa Hughes and David Wade (the BSO is unable to play due to a previously scheduled concert at Symphony Hall). A portion of every ticket sold to the world premiere will help support Martin's Park, named in honor of Martin Richard, who was eight years old when he was tragically killed on April 15, 2013 on Boylston Street. Martin's Park is set to be built in Boston along the Fort Point Channel in 2017.
The BSO has previously recorded three movie soundtracks at Symphony Hall: Schindler's List and Saving Private Ryan with composer and conductor John Williams in 1998, and Mystic River composed by Clint Eastwood, orchestrated by Pat Hollenbeck, and conducted by Lennie Neuhaus in 2003. The BOSTON soundtrack will be the first work by Mr. Beal performed by the Boston Symphony; the occasion will also mark Mr. Beal's first time conducting the orchestra.
ABOUT BOSTON
BOSTON is the first-ever feature-length documentary
to examine the world's most famous, arguably most prestigious, and
oldest annually contested road race: the Boston Marathon. From the
event's beginnings in 1897 as a small New England road race, to the
world's biggest stage for marathoners, this documentary looks at
the history of the race, the stories of the racers, and the
horrific events that happened in 2013. BOSTON director Jon Dunham and producers Megan
Williams and Eleanor Bingham Miller were granted exclusive film
rights to the Marathon by the event's organizers, the Boston
Athletic Association. For more information about the film please
