Spring Pops Season Announced;
Tickets on Public Sale February 22
Julian and Eunice Cohen Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart will be back on the podium for the 2016 Spring Pops season from May 6 through June 18.
As announced on February 19, the upcoming Pops season will feature classic Pops programming, beloved film music, the best of Broadway, classic rock anthems, and much more. In addition, a spectacular lineup of guest artists is set to join the orchestra, including many making their Pops debuts. New programs will spotlight the best of the worlds of dance and puppetry, while last year's audience favorite, Pops On Demand: You Choose the Tunes, returns.
The spring season will open and close with the Pops debuts of two hugely popular artists: on Friday, May 6, Seth MacFarlane opens the season singing American Songbook classics from the '40s and '50s, while, on the occasion of Pet Sounds' 50th anniversary, Brian Wilson performs one of the greatest albums of all time, June 17 and 18.
Film favorites will be spotlighted at the annual John Williams' Film Night on May 12 and 13; moreover, on June 3 and 4, Maestro Lockhart will be leading Williams' complete score of Raiders of the Lost Ark, alongside a screening of the celebrated film in honor of its 35th anniversary. The music of Broadway will also be featured when two Tony Award-winners join the Pops: Broadway star Sutton Foster on May 26 and 27, and actor and singer Mandy Patinkin on June 7. Patinkin will also be performing at the 35th Annual Presidents at Pops corporate fundraising gala on June 8. And making her Boston Pops debut, the legendary Darlene Love will join conductor Charles Floyd for the ever-popular Gospel Night concert, June 11.
The Pops will continue breaking new boundaries in the field of concert presentation, first with Dancing with a Twist May 7-8 - which will feature performers from Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. In addition, the Pops will be premiering a new program with the University of Connecticut's acclaimed puppet arts program when together they perform Peter and the Wolf and the music of Leroy Anderson on May 21 and 24.
Pops On Demand: You Choose the Tunes, the interactive concert series that debuted last year to much fanfare, returns this season on May 25, June 1, and June 14. During a Pops On Demand performance, patrons are invited to use their mobile devices to pick their favorite pieces to be played live. And with so much great Pops music to choose from, as well as exciting new guest artists and themed concerts ahead of us, audiences won't want to miss a thing.
