Symphony Hall Accessibility


The BSO is committed to providing access to Symphony Hall for everyone. No patron should ever be denied entrance to a concert because of access needs.

Ticketing Assistance

There is a dedicated telephone line- 617-638-9431 or toll free 888-266-1492, ext. 431-for disabled patrons who would like to purchase BSO or Boston Pops tickets, or who need information about disability services at Symphony Hall. A staff member will answer calls from 10am to 6pm and will respond to messages left during off hours the next business day.

Assistive Listening Devices
Headsets and multi-channel receivers for a PhonicEar FM sound-enhancement system are available free of charge. Please ask an usher upon entering the Hall to use one of these devices. Patrons may bring their own headset and receiver and access the FM frequencies on 74.725 MHZ (channel #35) or 75.225 MHZ (channel #37).

Inductive Hearing Loop
An inductive hearing loop is available in the First and Second Balconies at Symphony Hall and and can be accessed by anyone using a hearing aid or assisted listening device equipped with a Telecoil.

Accessible Seating
Accessible seating for patrons in wheelchairs is located on the orchestra floor in rows Q, X, and W (as needed). These seats are available at every price level. Symphony Hall can also accommodate the access needs of patrons not in wheelchairs. Please contact Richard Sezensky, Access Services Administrator, at 617-638-9431, or by email at

Access Service Center
The Access Service Center, located at the Cohen Wing entrance on Huntington Avenue, dispenses assistive listening headsets, wheelchairs, Braille and large-print programs, and emergency medical equipment. The staff will also assist patrons to and from their seats or vehicles, or with any other requests.

Large-print Programs
Large-print programs are available for every BSO concert at the Access Service Center and from the ushers at the Massachusetts Avenue entrance.

Note: Large-print programs may be available from some outside (non-BSO, non-Pops) concert promoters, but must be requested one month in advance.

Drinking Fountains/Beverage Services
Accessible water fountains are located by the restrooms at the Cohen Wing entrance and on the orchestra level on both sides of the hall as well as the left side of the first balcony. Beverage service counters are in the O'Block-Kay Room on the orchestra level. Patrons with disabilities who require assistance should notify an usher.

Braille Programs
Braille programs are available by advance request only. To request a Braille program, contact Richard Sezensky (617-638-9431 or at least one week in advance of the concert date.

Note: Since outside concerts (non-BSO, non-Pops) are not required to provide Braille programs, inquiries about the availability of Braille programs should be directed to the concert promoter.

Wheelchairs are available upon request at the Access Service Center for patrons who need assistance getting to their seats. A staff member or an usher will assist you.

The elevator in the Cohen Wing brings patrons to all levels of Symphony Hall. The glass elevator on the Massachusetts Avenue side of the Hall reaches the first and second balconies. A wheelchair-accessible ramp connects the Cohen Wing to the orchestra level.

Service Animals
Service animals accompanying patrons with disabilities are welcomed in Symphony Hall. Patrons should inform a representative when purchasing tickets at the Subscription Office (617-266-7575), TDD/TTY (617-638-9289), or SymphonyCharge (617-266-1200).

All restrooms in Symphony Hall are accessible.

Accessible telephones are located on either side of the O'Block-Kay Room on the orchestra level.

On-street parking for patrons with disabilities is available on a first-come, first-served basis on St. Stephen Street near the Stage Door and on Huntington Ave. near the Cohen Wing. There is also space on Huntington Avenue near the Cohen Wing entrance reserved for drop-off and pick-up only. Area parking garages offer spaces for patrons with disabilities, please contact individual garages for their specific accessible parking options.

Telecommunication Devices for the Deaf/Teletypewriters (TDD/TTY)
The TDD/TTY phone line (617-638-9289) allows patrons with hearing disabilities to make telephone transactions if they have telecommunication devices.

Rush Tickets (BSO Concerts Only)
Patrons with disabilities that make it difficult to stand in the Rush Ticket line can arrange to purchase them in advance by calling Richard Sezensky, Access Services Administrator, at 617-638-9431. Tickets will be held at the Box Office, or the Access Service Center.

Emergency Evacuation Procedures
Designated Symphony Hall ushers and security personnel have been trained in proper procedures for emergency situations. These staff members will have the primary duty of assisting patrons with disabilities to specific locations.
