An Evening With Rhiannon Giddens

After her electric, buzz-producing performance on the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular last summer, Grammy and MacArthur ‘genius’ grant-winner Rhiannon Giddens and her band join the Pops for a genre-busting evening of music from her critically-acclaimed albums with influences in roots, jazz, blues, country, Gospel, and Celtic. The co-founder of Grammy-winning string band Carolina Chocolate Drops, Giddens is also a Grammy nominated solo artist with a recurring role on the hit-TV show Nashville, and hosts the Metropolitan Opera’s Aria Code podcast.

“The Pops’ ability to balance a Broadway icon against a woman who has been to outer space, bouncing between Strauss and Williams and “Send in the Clowns” over a two-hour concert should be applauded. (Certainly a season that finds space for travel guru Rick Steves to lead a tour of European classical music, “Hamilton” star Leslie Odom Jr. to sing a night of Nat King Cole and polymath Rhiannon Giddens to present four nights of African-American composers and lost music should be cheered.)” – Boston Herald
