What is happening this summer for safety protocols at Tanglewood due to the pandemic?

Safety is paramount to us and we have developed a robust plan to ensure the health and safety of everyone at Tanglewood this summer. Please go to tanglewood.org/safety on our website for more detailed information.

Where do I park when I come to Tanglewood?

Depending on the direction that you are arriving from, our parking staff will direct you exactly to where you need to be. There are multiple different parking lots surrounding the Tanglewood campus that are utilized for our events. Please make a note of the lot you have parked in before leaving your vehicle. If you have accessible parking needs, please head to the Main Gate entrance on West Street to park in our Accessible Parking lot.

* Please note for the summer 2021 season, the Lions gate and parking areas will only be open on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday afternoons.

How much does it cost for parking at Tanglewood? 

Parking is free at Tanglewood. There are no fees to park in our parking lots on the Tanglewood campus.

Where do I park if I have difficulty walking?

Please plan on arriving to the Main Gate entrance of Tanglewood (297 West Street, Lenox, MA). This is where our Handicap accessible lot is located for Shed performances and this is where it is the safest for our patrons with any mobility impairments to park. Upon arrival, please let an attendant know that you need accessible parking and they will direct you to our accessible parking lot.

How soon before the gates open can I get there and park?

Our parking attendants are on duty 3 hours prior to the performance gate times.

How long before gates open can I park?

The gate times vary depending on the day and performance. However, the gates will be open 2 hours prior to the performance time for the summer of 2021.

How long does the performance last?

The performances for this summer will be 80 minutes with no intermission.

How do I know where my reserved seats are located in the Shed?

Here is a seating chart so that you can view your exact seat location. Lawn tickets are just general admission which means you can sit anywhere you would like on the lawn where you see grass.
*** Please note that there are certain seats that are blocked off in the Shed for summer 2021. This is to maintain physical distancing between seats. Not all seats are available this summer due to a reduced capacity.

Can you see/ hear the concert if you are seated on the lawn?

We have amplification on the lawn as well as state-of-the-art LED screens that project what is on stage to the screens above the lawn. You can see and hear everything that is happening on stage.

How soon before the concert starts should I get there to get a good seat on the lawn?

We feel that any spot on the lawn is a good one due to the beautiful surroundings of Tanglewood. However, if you want to be up close to the back of the Shed, we recommend getting there when the gates open for your performance to ensure a closer spot.

Can I bring my own food and beverages?

You are welcome to bring your own food and beverages. For safety purposes, only water is allowed in the Shed. All other food and beverages must be consumed prior to entering the Shed. We kindly ask that you properly dispose of your trash at the designated trash receptacles on campus.

Can I picnic on the lawn before the concert if I have Shed tickets?

Everyone is welcome to picnic on the lawn regardless of which seats they have purchased. We just ask that those with Shed tickets who are just picnicking to do so without taking away desirable areas for Lawn ticketholders.

Can I bring blankets and chairs to sit on the lawn?

Yes, you can bring your own blankets and chairs to sit on.

Can I rent lawn chairs or seat cushions?

Seat cushions are available for a rental fee of $3 per cushion and lawn chairs are available for rent for a $7 fee (cash and credit card accepted) prior to each concert. Discounts are available when renting 10 or more chairs. Rentals are subject to availability. Lawn chairs and seat cushions are available at the Beer Garden near the main entrance to the Shed.

Can I leave the grounds and come back? (Ex. Go to my car and come back)

Yes, just be sure to scan out at the gate and then scan back in once you’re back.

I have lawn tickets, what happens if it rains?

We regret there can be no refunds, even in the event of inclement weather. The shows go on rain or shine. In the event of severe weather conditions, a coordinated campus-wide alert will be issued. Patrons and staff will be directed to shelters in a safe and orderly manner. You are welcome to bring umbrellas and other rain gear. Please note that nothing can be staked into the ground (see Canopy policy below).

Can I bring a pop-up tent to use if it rains?

In an effort to enhance the lawn experience at Tanglewood, patrons are permitted to use small, open-sided canopies provided that such equipment is open on all sides, does not have stakes exceeding 6 inches in length, is no larger than 6 feet square or 4 feet in diameter, and is used only in areas designated by Tanglewood staff. The lawn irrigation system is vulnerable to damage from stake penetrations exceeding 6 inches in length. Canopies exceeding specified size limitations or installed in undesignated areas can unreasonably obstruct views of other lawn patrons and create potential safety hazards in severe weather conditions and are not permitted.
Please note that patrons assume responsibility for properly securing their lawn equipment and any damages to persons or property arising from the use of such equipment at Tanglewood. Tanglewood retains the right to prohibit the use of any lawn equipment that interferes with its infrastructure, causes a potential safety issue or impairs the lawn experience for other patrons.

Can I bring my dog to sit with me on the lawn?

No pets (except for service animals) are allowed on Tanglewood property.

I have special needs and need ticketing accommodations; how do I purchase?

The BSO is committed to providing access to Tanglewood for everyone. Accessible seats are available. Please contact our Access Services Administrator at 617-266-1200. Read more information about accessibility.

Do you offer wheelchair assistance?

Yes, we do offer wheelchair escorts. Please ask one of our parking attendants or Tanglewood staff members and they assist you in getting a wheelchair escort. There are no advanced reservations for wheelchair assistance. We do not loan out our wheelchairs; we have escorts to push you wherever you need to be on the grounds. This is a free service that we are happy to provide for our guests.

How do I get a Braille or Large Print Program at Tanglewood?

To obtain a Braille program please call our Access Services office at 617-266-1200 and they will arrange to have the program printed for your visit to Tanglewood. We ask that the request be made at least 10 days in advance. If you need a large print program, please ask an usher upon arriving at Tanglewood and they would be happy to get one for you.

Help, I have lost my tickets! What do I do?

If you have misplaced or never received your tickets, please contact Symphony Charge at 617-266-1200 prior to the performance. If it is less than 24 hours before the event/performance, you can come to the Box Office at Tanglewood in person. Please bring with you a copy of the order email confirmation. Our staff would be happy to reprint your tickets for you.

How do I access and use my mobile tickets?

To access your mobile tickets, please go to tickets.tanglewood.org and log in using your bso.org or tanglewood.org credentials. All Tanglewood 2021 tickets will be visible starting June 28th. A few hours before gates open, a QR code will become visible. This QR code is to be displayed on your mobile phone or tablet, and scanned at the gate upon entry. This QR code will be dynamic and refresh every 30 seconds, so a screenshot of the QR code will not scan.

Do kids need a ticket?

All persons require a ticket for attendance regardless of age. Due to the generosity of special donors, Tanglewood is pleased to offer free lawn tickets to any children under the age of 18. This is true for all performances except our Popular Artist series. Tickets for kids can be obtained on the day of the performance at any of our box office locations. Children over 2 years of age, must have a paid ticket for our Popular Artist series. These can be purchased in advance by calling our Tanglewood ticket office at 617-266-1200.

Are there discounts for kids' tickets?

For some of our Popular Artist performances, there are discounted children's lawn tickets. Otherwise, there are no discounted children's tickets.

Are there restaurant or foodservice options to eat at on the grounds?

Tanglewood will introduce a new mobile ordering system for food and beverage this summer that will feature contactless delivery or pick-up dining options at select locations. Two dining locations, the Tanglewood Café and the Taste of the Berkshires, will provide covered, outdoor, and physically distanced table seating.

Where is the lost and found?

The lost and found is located in the Welcome Center which can be found at the Main Gate next to the Box Office. If you have lost an item and need to contact the lost and found, please call 413-637-5180 or email customerservice@bso.org. We hold lost and found items for 1 year after the Tanglewood season.

How do I get to Tanglewood?

Using your GPS, enter 297 West Street, Lenox, MA 01240
From Boston, take the Mass Turnpike (I-90) west to Exit 10 (formerly exit 2). Follow to Route 20 west, which merges with Route 7 north. Turn left onto Route 183 south. The Tanglewood main entrance is 1.4 miles west of Lenox Center on Route 183 (West Street).
From New York City and New Jersey, take the Taconic State Parkway to the Berkshire Section of the NY Thruway east to the MA Turnpike Exit 10 (formerly exit 2). Follow to Route 20 west, which merges with Route 7 north. Turn left onto Route 183 south. The Tanglewood main entrance is 1.4 miles west of Lenox Center on Route 183 (West Street). Or take the Taconic State Parkway to 295 east to 41 south to Tanglewood.
From western and central Connecticut, take I-91 to the MA Turnpike west to Exit 10 (formerly exit 2). Follow to Route 20 west, which merges with Route 7 north. Turn left onto Route 183 south. Tanglewood main entrance is 1.4 miles west of Lenox Center on Route 183 (West Street).
If you are using the Ozawa Hall Gate on Hawthorne Street, when driving to Tanglewood, in respect for our neighbors, please be mindful that it is a residential neighborhood, and the speed limit is 30 mph. Likewise, on West Street close to Lenox Town Center, the speed limit is 35 mph, and 40 mph heading towards Tanglewood. We would appreciate it if you would refrain from using your car horn as well, particularly post-concert. *** For summer 2021, this entrance will be closed due to non-activity on this side of the Tanglewood campus.

Can I just come and walk the grounds at Tanglewood even if I am not seeing a concert?

Where there is no performance at Tanglewood, we invite you to come tour the grounds on the Tanglewood campus. The grounds are open most days from 9am-4pm when there is no performance, weather permitting. Grounds open for the 2021 season on June 14th.

I would like to participate in the Saturday morning Yoga program, how do I sign up?

Once again, this summer, in collaboration with the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health, Tanglewood is pleased to offer six different hour-long yoga classes taught by fully accredited Kripalu teachers from 10:15-11:15am on Saturday mornings (weather permitting). Located on the lawn near the Tanglewood Visitor Center, these weekly classes are available at no additional charge to Saturday-morning BSO Rehearsal ticket holders on July 10, 17, 24, 31, and August 7, 14.

Do you offer tours of Tanglewood?

For the summer of 2021, there will not be any guided tours available in keeping with our health and safety protocols.

Is there a gift shop at Tanglewood?

For summer of 2021, there will be a new mobile ordering system for limited retail purchases, as the Glass Houses will be closed to avoid indoor congregation. Items will be available for pickup at a tent near Tanglewood’s Main Gate.

I just booked my tickets to Tanglewood, can you please recommend a place to stay?

Can you tell me what happens when I arrive at Tanglewood? I have never been and I am not sure what to expect?

When you arrive at Tanglewood, we have parking attendants who will direct you to exactly where to park. If you need accessible parking, please make sure you relay that to the attendant so that they can direct you to our Main Gate entrance which has accessible parking lots.
Once you park you will be directed to the nearest gate from your parking lot to enter the grounds. The gate attendant will scan your ticket, and you can walk to the gate. If you need to pick up tickets or purchase tickets, there is a box office at every entrance.
If you have lawn tickets, you are welcome to find a suitable location on the lawn to watch the performance. You can set up your spot enjoy a picnic and then walk around the beautiful grounds of Tanglewood before the performance begins. If you have Shed tickets, you will be allowed to enter the Shed as soon as the sound check and security sweeps are complete.
Please note: The Tanglewood Box Office closes 30 minutes after the start of a performance.  After the Box Office closes, any remaining will-call tickets will be moved to the Main Gate for late pick-up. The Main Gate is located at 297 West Street.  You may not enter the grounds without a ticket. Tickets cannot be purchased after the box office closes.

How do I support Tanglewood?
