Tanglewood for Kids

Free lawn tickets for children and young people up to 17!
Tanglewood is pleased to offer free lawn tickets for children and young people age 17 and younger. Up to four free children's tickets are available per parent/legal guardian per concert at the Tanglewood Box Office on the day of the concert. Children under five are not permitted in the Koussevitzky Music Shed or Seiji Ozawa Hall during concerts. All patrons, regardless of age, must have a ticket. This free lawn ticket policy does not apply to organized groups of children. For Popular Artist concerts, free lawn tickets are only available for children under 2.

The 2018 Tanglewood Free Lawn Tickets for Children and Young People Program is supported by a generous gift from the Pumpkin Foundation/Joe and Carol Reich.

Summer Sundays

Enjoy new and exciting events for all ages including instrument demonstrations, local food and beer tastings, craft activities, temporary tattoos, and more! Also, join us in the Theatre Sundays at 12:30pm for an educational series including informal talks, unique performances, musical demonstrations, and public masterclasses.

As part of Summer Sundays, each week will feature a fun, interactive musical presentation for audiences of all ages. Either "What's That Sound?" which introduces various instruments of the orchestra with a demonstration and Q&A, or "Watch and Play," sponsored by the Boston Symphony Association of Volunteers, which offers a musical performance specifically designed to engage children ages 3-10. The program will be offered at 1pm each Sunday from July 8 to August 26. Tickets to the Sunday-afternoon concert performance are required.

Kids' Corner is offered at 9:30am on Saturdays and noon on Sundays. However, on days of Watch and Play, Kids' Corner will begin at 2pm. Children accompanied by adults may take part in musical and crafts activities supervised by BSO staff. Please stop by the Tanglewood Visitor Center for more information. Tickets to the Sunday concert or Saturday-morning rehearsal are required.

Instrument Playgrounds, presented by the Boston Symphony Association of Volunteers, provide children the chance to try out many different musical instruments with volunteers offering instruction. The will be offered rain or shine at the Tanglewood Family Fun Fest (July 27, 4-5:30pm, Formal Gardens Tent), Tanglewood on Parade (August 7, 2-4pm, Tent Club) and prior to the Young People's Concert (August 10, 5-6:30pm, Chamber Music Hall).

Children 5 Years of Age and Under
Please note that children 5 years of age and under are not permitted in the Koussevitzky Music Shed or in Seiji Ozawa Hall during performances, but are welcome to sit on the lawn. Please note that there are kids' activities on Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.

Student Discount Tanglewood offers a 50% discount on BSO Friday-evening lawn tickets for college and graduate students, 18 and over, with a student ID. Tickets must be purchased in person at the Main Box Office, only on the night of the performance.
