RAGTIME: THE SYMPHONIC CONCERT

Music by STEPHEN FLAHERTY
Lyrics by LYNN AHRENS
Book by TERRENCE MCNALLY
Original orchestrations by WILLIAM DAVID BROHN
Additional orchestrations by KIM SCHARNBERG
Adapted from the musical based on the novel Ragtime by E.L. Doctorow

Two acts with intermission. The concert is about 120 minutes long.

Commissioned by the Boston Pops in 2020 in honor of Keith Lockhart's 25th year as Boston Pops Conductor.

These performances are dedicated to the memory of Broadway legend and Ragtime playwright Terrence McNally (1938-2020), who helped create this symphonic version of the work especially for the Boston Pops.

This concert version of Ragtime contains disturbing depictions of racism, including racial slurs and racially motivated violence, as well as sound effects of explosions and gunshots. While some of these elements from the original theatrical production have been altered, they may still make some guests uncomfortable.

A special thanks to Amanda Severin from her former colleagues for her foundational work on this project, upon which it rests in large part. Her contributions to the success of these performances are inestimable.

Special thanks also to New England Conservatory, Emerson College, James Harp, and CP Casting.

Please silence your electronic devices and note that photography, audio, and video recording are prohibited during the performance.

The Boston Pops welcomes:
