TLI Focal Point: Golden Hour 

Join local professional photographer and photography educator Thaddeus B. Kubis for a session capturing the magic of golden hour as the sun sets over the Berkshires. Participants should bring a smartphone, DSLR, or mirrorless camera system; a sturdy tripod; the equipment listed below; and plenty of imagination.   

After checking-in at the Linde Center, participants will receive an introductory overview from Thad and will then set up and photograph each stage of the evening light—from traditional sunset through civil, nautical, and astronomical twilight—capturing the soft light, warm color, and compressed dynamic range of the golden hour. This class will last between 2 ½ and 3 hours. 

Equipment needed: 

• Camera system of your choice and lens or lenses (long lenses are better—100mm to 300mm) and/or a fully-charged smartphone or tablet.
• Plenty of space on your memory cards, hard drive, or other inline storage device.
• Sturdy and adaptable tripod with an adjustable head (no monopods, please).
• Smartphone mag tripod adapter or smartphone compression holder to allow your tripod to connect with your smartphone.
• Writing implement and notebook
• Headlamp with RED filter function.
• Weather-appropriate attire.
• Optional: Circular polarizing filter and a graduated neutral density filter 3 to 5 stops.
• Optional: Intervalometer—remote control shutter activation device (can be an app or cabled device).
• Optional: Folding chair.
