Boston Pops 2022 Season Programs

Ring in spring with the Boston Pops during this incredible 2022 season! In honor of Pops Conductor Laureate John Williams’ 90th birthday this year, you’ll have the rare opportunity to experience Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone™ in Concert while Williams’ unforgettable score is performed by the Boston Pops. The movie magic continues with special screenings of The Empire Strikes Back with live accompaniment of the film’s iconic score, celebrating all that Williams has contributed to the Pops and to the entire world of music.

The bright lights of Broadway come to Symphony Hall as vocalists Susan Egan, Telly Leung, and Alton Fitzgerald White perform The Magical Music of Alan Menken, featuring some of the most beloved songs of our time from both the stage and screen. Hamilton star Christopher Jackson also joins the Pops for an evening of his favorite songs from pop, Broadway, and more. Before the season closes with the joyful Gospel Night concert featuring the Boston Pops Gospel Choir and gospel superstar Smokie Norful, pianist Lara Downes and singer and actor Brian Stokes Mitchell join “America’s Orchestra” for Duke Ellington Reimagined, an exploration of the indelible mark Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn left on American music.

Join Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops for a concert filled with all your favorite songs performed by Broadway stars Susan Egan (Beauty and the Beast, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Cabaret, State Fair), Telly Leung (Glee, Aladdin, Rent), and Alton Fitzgerald White (The Lion King, The Color Purple, Ragtime, Miss Saigon).

    Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back

    Join Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops as they present this classic film with live orchestral accompaniment. “You must feel the Force around you...” The battle for the galaxy intensifies in this thrilling fifth episode of the unfolding saga. As Imperial Forces launch an all-out attack on the Rebel Alliance, Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Princess Leia (Carrie Fisher) flee to Cloud City where they are captured by Darth Vader. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) journeys to the mysterious, marshy planet of Dagobah, where the wise Jedi Master Yoda teaches the young hero the ways of the Force. Little does Luke know that all his Jedi training will be called upon so soon. A stunning revelation — and a seeming life-or-death duel with Darth Vader — await.

    An Evening with Christopher Jackson

    Best known for originating the role of George Washington in Hamilton, Tony nominee Christopher Jackson joins Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops for an unforgettable evening at Symphony Hall. Enjoy as Jackson performs music from Harry Belafonte to In the Heights, drawing from his favorites in pop, soul, Broadway, and his own original music, including his Emmy-award winning songs for Sesame Street and The Electric Company. Tuesday night also features winners of the Fidelity Investments Young Artists Competition. These talented young musicians, chosen from entrants across Massachusetts, receive expert coaching from Lockhart and Jackson, culminating in their thrilling Boston Pops debuts.

    Duke Ellington Reimagined

    Explore the extraordinary musical legacies of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, whose nearly 30 years of creative collaboration helped to shape the sound and spirit of American music as we know it today. Trailblazing American pianist Lara Downes will perform the world premiere of The Strayhorn Concerto, built on three of Strayhorn’s most expressive songs — “A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing,” “Strange Feeling,” and “Something to Live For” — arranged by composer Chris Walden. Two-time Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell (Kiss Me, Kate, Ragtime, Shuffle Along, Man of La Mancha) joins in the fun as well, bringing his rich voice and captivating performance style to this wonderful American music.

    Gospel Night

    Get on your feet and sing along with joy! This annual celebration with the Boston Pops and Boston Pops Gospel Choir features vocalist Smokie Norful, known for his 2002 album I Need You Now and 2004 release Nothing Without You, which won him a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Soul Gospel Album. Along with his role as founding Senior Pastor of Victory Cathedral Worship Center in Illinois, Norful has released five #1 Billboard Albums and been named Billboard’s “Gospel Artist of the Year” several times.
