About

Andrew Munn is a bass and collaborative artist based in Berlin. He performs opera, chamber music, and concert repertoire alongside interdisciplinary projects that engage history, ecology, and contemporary culture. He trained at The Juilliard School, Bard College Conservatory, and the University of Michigan and is an affiliated artist of the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel. He has appeared in principal roles and world premieres at venues including the Berliner Philharmonie, Carnegie Hall, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Shanghai Concert Hall, Salzburg State Theater, Lincoln Center, and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. His work spans core repertoire—from bass soloist in Verdi’s Requiem to Mozart’s Sarastro—to contemporary opera and experimental music theater. A dedicated interpreter of song, he performs major cycles including Schubert’s Winterreise and Shostakovich’s Suite on Verses by Michelangelo, and develops new interdisciplinary works with composers, sound artists, and writers across Europe and the United States. From 2008 to 2014, he lived in the mountains of central Appalachia, where he worked as an organizer in movements for environmental justice, land reform, and economic transition in coal-dependent communities. This period continues to inform his artistic work, grounding his performances and interdisciplinary projects in questions of ecology, history, and social responsibility.
