Elizabeth Bishop

American mezzo-soprano Elizabeth Bishop has performed on opera stages and in concert halls across the world, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Washington National Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Pittsburgh Opera, Dallas Opera, Atlanta Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Palm Beach Opera, and Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Italy.

Bishop's upcoming engagements include Marcellina in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro at San Diego Opera, as well as Mahler's Symphony No. 2 with the Memphis Symphony Orchestra. The 2025-26 season features Bishop's return to Washington National Opera as Marcellina, conducted by Robert Spano.

Recent highlights include Marcellina with the Metropolitan Opera, Herodias in Salome with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Madame de la Haltière in Massenet's Cendrillon at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and her role debut as Brigitta in a new production of Die tote Stadt with Opera Colorado.

Bishop has maintained a long relationship with the Metropolitan Opera, tracing back to winning the National Council Auditions in 1993. She has appeared as the title role in Iphigénie en Tauride, Fricka in Die Walküre, Second Norn and Waltraute in Götterdämmerung, Teresa in La sonnambula, Enrichetta in I puritani, Fenena in Nabucco, Venus in Tannhäuser, and Mère Marie in Dialogues des Carmélites. She has recently appeared in productions of Les Troyens, Das Rheingold, and War and Peace. Other notable credits include Fricka with the Lyric Opera of Chicago and Washington National Opera, and joining San Francisco Opera for its Ring cycle.
