Hanna-Elisabeth Müller

Soprano Hanna-Elisabeth Müller is among today's foremost interpreters of both lied and opera repertoire. She made her international breakthrough at the 2014 Salzburg Easter Festival as Zdenka in Strauss's Arabella, co-starring with Renée Fleming and Thomas Hampson under Christian Thielemann, a performance for which she was named young artist of the year by Opernwelt magazine. Müller is a frequent guest at the world's leading opera houses, including the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, Dresden's Semperoper, Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Zurich Opera, and the Salzburg Festival.

In the 2025-26 season, Müller takes on three major new productions: she tours Japan with the Vienna State Opera as the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, reprises the role for her Paris Opera debut, and returns to the Vienna State Opera as Vitellia in a new production of La clemenza di Tito under Pablo Heras-Casado. On the concert stage, she joins the Vienna Symphony Orchestra for Berg's Sieben frühe Lieder, appears with the Orchestre National de France in Schumann's Das Paradies und die Peri, and performs Haydn's The Creation with the Berlin Philharmonic at the Salzburg Easter Festival.

In recent seasons, Müller has appeared at the Vienna State Opera as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus, the Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, and Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg; at the Berlin State Opera as Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and Elettra in Idomeneo; and at the Bavarian State Opera as Elettra in Idomeneo and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni, reprised at La Scala. At the Metropolitan Opera, she has sung Marzelline in Fidelio, Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte.

On the concert stage, Müller has performed Strauss's Vier letzte Lieder and Mahler's Resurrection Symphony, with many of the leading orchestras of Europe and North America, including the New York Philharmonic, the Orchestre National de France, and the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, among others. She has also sung Beethoven's Missa Solemnis, Brahms's German Requiem, and Dvořák's Stabat Mater with orchestras across Germany and Austria.

Müller is a Pentatone exclusive recording artist. Her recordings include "Traumgekrönt" (2017), "Reine de Coeur" (2020), and "Sinnbild" (2022), and an all-Strauss program recorded live with the WDR Symphony Orchestra and Christoph Eschenbach. She studied with Rudolf Piernay and has participated in masterclasses with Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Julia Varady, and Thomas Hampson.
