Iris Tian

About

Iris Tian is a senior at Boston Latin School and studies violin with Jin-Kyung Joen at the Rivers School Conservatory in Weston. Her previous teachers were Lisa Lederer, Magdalena Richter, and Amy Beekhuizen. 

Iris was the top prize winner at the Rivers School Conservatory Concerto Competition, leading to a solo performance with the Rivers Symphony Orchestra. This past March, she was part of a chamber group that performed Ravel’s Introduction and Allegro on NPR’s From the Top. Iris has performed in masterclasses given by composer Lera Auerbach and violinist Grigory Kalinovsky. 

Iris has served as the concertmistress of the Boston Latin School orchestra as well as an alternating concertmistress of the Boston Youth Symphony senior orchestra. For all of her high school years, she was a member of the Massachusetts Music Educators Association Senior District and All-State orchestras, as well as the All-Eastern Orchestra this year. 

Iris enjoys giving back to her community as a musical volunteer, organizing performances at Mt. Pleasant Senior Home in Boston with student musicians from her school. She also enjoys hiking and reading classical literature and is looking forward to studying Neuroscience at Brown University this fall.
