Jennifer Homans is the dance critic for the New Yorker. She is the author of the 2022 book "Mr. B: George Balanchine’s 20th Century," which was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Critics Circle Award, among others; and 2010's "Apollo's Angels: A History of Ballet," which was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and was chosen as one of the New York Times' "10 Best Books of the Year."  Homans was a professional dancer and performed with the Pacific Northwest Ballet before earning a bachelor's at Columbia University and a doctorate in Modern European History at New York University, where she is now a scholar in residence and the founding director of the Center for Ballet and the Arts.
