Jonghwan Kim

About
Noted for his brilliant technique and interpretive depth, Jonghwan Kim is a classical saxophonist shaped by his diverse educational journey through Korea, France, and the United States. He began gaining prominence after winning top prizes at national competitions in Korea, including those presented by Seoul National University and the Ulsan Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also selected as a Kumho Young Artist, leading to his solo recital debut. Continued his artistic path under the guidance of Julien Petit in France, he performed at numerous festivals, including the Habanera Saxophone Festival in Poitiers. He has since expanded his international presence, appearing as a soloist and ensemble performer at the 20th WASBE Festival in Korea, Carnegie Hall in New York and the Navy Band Saxophone Symposium in Virginia. At the NASA Saxophone Conference in Oklahoma, he performed as a member of the Indiana University Saxophone Ensemble, presenting notable works arranged for saxophone ensemble. Kim has participated in leading saxophone academies across Europe and the U.S., such as the European University Saxophone Academy and the American Saxophone Academy. Along with his earlier training at Seoul National University and the CRR d’Aubervilliers, he honed his artistry as the first Korean saxophonist to study under Dr. Otis Murphy at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is currently pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts at Boston University, where he also serves as assistant director of the saxophone ensemble under Kenneth Radnofsky and Dr. Jennifer Bill.
