About the BSO Education Program
Founded in 1881, the Boston Symphony is regarded as one of the world's great orchestras for both its artistic and educational achievements. Our mission is to "foster and maintain an organization dedicated to the making of music consonant with the highest aspirations of the musical art, creating performances and providing educational opportunities at the highest level of excellence."
Thomas Wilkins - Helping Young Listeners Own the Music
The explosive energy was not some sort of youthful rebellion against the perceived formality of classical music. In fact, it was actually inspired by the conductor himself-Thomas Wilkins, a tall and energetic man who brings excitement and engagement along with education to the assembled students here and at all of the BSO's Youth and Family Concerts.
