Boston Symphony Chamber Players
at Symphony Hall
Boston Symphony Orchestra
- Boston, MA
On Feb. 11, the Boston Symphony Orchestra celebrates its connections with one of Europe's most distinguished ensembles, the Gewandhaus Orchestra of Leipzig, Germany. Known for its remarkable acoustics, the second Gewandhaus concert hall of Leipzig served as a model for Symphony Hall when it was built in 1900. Although that Gewandhaus was destroyed in 1944, Leipzig's third Gewandhaus concert hall is still the home of the over 200 year-old Gewandhaus Orchestra, now conducted by BSO Music Director Andris Nelsons. In this special Feb. 11 concert, we celebrate these connections between Leipzig and Boston, the Old World and the New, with a joint performance of the Boston Symphony Chamber Players and the Gewandhaus-Quartett.
