BSO Commissions

The Boston Symphony Orchestra made its first commissions in honor of its 50th Anniversary season in 1930-1931, and renewed its commissioning activity periodically to mark milestone occasions. After the Centennial Celebration, commissioning became a regular part of programming, and the BSO continues to create a legacy of new works for its audiences.

Works are listed in rough chronological order by first BSO performance. Unless otherwise noted, all works were performed by the BSO.
* indicates world premiere
** indicated U.S. premiere
