American Road Trip, Part 1: Photography | E Pluribus Unum: From Many, One
The midcentury innovation of "the road trip" — now a quintessential American experience — was made possible by a new interstate highway system connecting previously patchwork roads, the family sedan, and photographers seeking inspiration. In the process, they captured “the sublime and the banal” of an America you can only find on the road.
The perfect complement to Augustin Hadelich and Orion Weiss' musical exploration of the road trip genre (Feb. 1), join David Campany, creative director of the International Center of Photography and author of The Open Road, photographer Amani Willett, and Lane Curator of Photographs Karen Haas for an illustrated talk about capturing American scenes, urban and rural, and how photography has evolved as a way to record the human experience.
