Stravinsky Ballets: Andris Nelsons conducts The Rite of Spring
Boston Symphony Orchestra Andris Nelsons, conductor Håkan Hardenberger, trumpet Unsuk CHIN Trumpet Concerto STRAVINSKY The Rite of Spring

Longtime Andris Nelsons collaborator Håkan Hardenberger returns to Symphony Hall for Korean German composer Unsuk Chin's new trumpet concerto. Hardenberger has pioneered new works for his instrument by many of the world's greatest composers throughout his career. The sought-after Grawemeyer and Siemens prize-winning Chin composes orchestral and operatic music of exquisite nuance and expressive impact. The second half of the program features Igor Stravinsky’s electrifying ballet score The Rite of Spring, which conjures the primal energy of a ritual of earth-worship. These performances are also the first of two weeks in which the BSO and Andris Nelsons perform all three of Stravinsky’s revolutionary early ballets, The Rite of Spring, Petrushka, and The Firebird.
