Wynton MARSALIS New Work, for cello and orchestra

The last of the three visiting orchestras presented by the Boston Symphony Orchestra this season, the Interlochen Arts Academy features cellist Yo-Yo Ma in a new work by composer and jazz ambassador Wynton Marsalis. Opening the program is one the great monuments of American music: Charles Ives’ spiritually searching Fourth Symphony has intricate, multilayered orchestral textures that are interwoven with rich allusions to traditional Christian hymns. Indian American composer Reena Esmail’s RE|member, is an energetic overture-like work exploring togetherness.
