Music Director Andris Nelsons welcomes 2026 Tanglewood Music Center Conducting Fellow Lauren Smith to the Symphony Hall podium for this evening of Beethoven. As a capstone to the TMC Fellows program, Smith leads the BSO in the Egmont Overture, a heroic work that pairs perfectly with the composer’s Fifth Symphony. Nelsons conducts the climactic masterpiece, which begins with the instantly recognizable four-note “fate” motif and ends in a triumphant finale.
