Superstar pianist and frequent BSO collaborator Lang Lang returns for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2, a light and lyrical work from the composer’s younger days. Music Director Andris Nelsons welcomes 2026 Tanglewood Music Center Conducting Fellow Julian Gilewski to the Symphony Hall podium for this evening of Beethoven. As a capstone to the TMC Fellows program, Gilewski leads the BSO in the Leonore Overture No. 3, where a dark opening gives way to a victorious rescue. Nelsons closes with the Fifth Symphony, a climactic masterpiece that begins with the instantly recognizable four-note “fate” motif and ends in a triumphant finale.
