Making Movie Magic Onstage with the BSO
Famed director George Lucas once noted “the sound and music are fifty percent of the entertainment in a movie”. Movies with a live orchestra have become very popular around the country, but syncing the music to the film is not as easy as you may think, watch Keith Lockhart’s insights on how the magic comes together for an unforgettable night.
Interested in seeing the Boston Pops bring movie magic to life in front of you? Whether you're at Tanglewood or in Boston, you'll have the chance to watch the Pops in action.
John Williams’ Film Night at Tanglewood on Saturday, August 5 will feature the legendary conductor himself taking the podium alongside fellow conductor, film composer, and Academy Award nominee David Newman in an evening of film clips and music from the silver screen, which promises to be a special evening of movie magic. Williams will also appear at Tanglewood on Parade on August 8 during the evening performance in the Koussevitzky Shed, during which a selection of his famous works, including Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Born on the Fourth of July, and Far and Away, will be performed. The Boston Pops is back on Saturday, August 26 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone In Concert, and Sunday, August 27 with Star Wars: The Story in Music.
If you can’t make it to Tanglewood, you have one more chance this year to experience the magic of movies with a live orchestra with two performances at Symphony Hall at the end of September. Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra will begin with a John Williams Tribute, which will provide fans a look at cinema’s greatest music featuring Williams’ scores and including film excerpts and exclusive interview footage featuring John Williams discussing his work. Concluding the brief Fall Boston Pops performances is a return of Star Wars: The Story in Music.
