Greek bass Alexandros Stavrakakis won first place at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition, and is a regular guest at Semperoper Dresden, where his roles this season include Alidoro in La Cenerentola, Filippo II in Don Carlo, and Colline in La bohème, among others. This season he will give his debut at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris and will return to Bayerische Staatsoper, Schloss Elmau, and Semperoper Dresden.

In past seasons Stavrakakis has debuted at Metropolitan Opera in New York, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Opera National de Bordeaux, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, and at the Verbier Festival and Festival d’Aix-en-Provence.

Future seasons will see his return to Semperoper Dresden and Bayerische Staatsoper, as well as house debuts at Teatro del Liceu in Barcelona, Houston Grand Opera and L’Opéra national de Paris.

In addition to his victory at the 2019 International Tchaikovsky Competition, Stavrakakis won the Third Wagner International Competition in Leipzig, and won the audience prize and placed second at the prestigious 2018 Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition in Riga.
