BSAV Office Notes from Erin Asbury

Spring 2025

Hello BSAV Members!

We can feel the sap rising here in Boston with warmer temps and more sunshine… and looking forward to much warmer and longer days ahead.
A few updates for you all as we look ahead:

Events

  • The Boston Recognition Event is on Tuesday, May 20 at 5:30pm in Higginson Hall.
  • Our Welcome Back for Tanglewood will be on Wednesday, June 18 from 3-5pm.  Here’s the schedule for that day:
    • 1pm In-person training for various projects – Ushers, Tour Guides, Docents, New Volunteers. Locations TBD.
    • 3pm  Main Meeting for all BSAV in the Shed
    • 4pm  Reception in the Tent Club
  • The BSAV Named Concert at Tanglewood will be on Sunday, August 17 at 2:30pm.  As per usual, we will be offering a pair of complimentary Shed tickets to all active and volunteer emeritus volunteers.

A huge thank you to BSAV Boston member Pat Stanton, who has led several tours at the MFA this season for BSAV Members.  Her talks are always very interesting, engaging, and informative.  Thank you, Pat!

Tanglewood Volunteers

Only one change this year (can you believe that?!) which will pertain to any volunteer who volunteers at the Shed from gate opening time to concert start time:

  • When you report for your shift 15 minutes prior to the gates opening, you need to report to the Volunteer Huddle, which will be behind the Welcome Center (near the picnic tables where we’ve been having our social gatherings).  Here you will get important information which pertains to that particular date/concert: start/end times, when intermission is, and also any outside events that are happening that you might need to know about, among other things. This will be led by a volunteer trained for this purpose.  This way, we will all have the same information for patrons.

All Volunteers

I know many of our Boston volunteers have met her in person, and many of you over email, but we have a new Northeastern Co-op in the BSAV office assisting us until late June – Delaney McGee!  She is second year at Northeastern University studying Music Industry and Argumentation & Law.  She plays trumpet in the Northeastern Fusion Ensemble and is on the Northeastern University Women's Rugby Team. Delaney is originally from Westport, Connecticut, but now lives in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine.  Her hobbies include cooking, playing jazz and fusion on trumpet, watching movies, and snowboarding/being outdoors! Fun facts: she has 21 cousins, and three (soon to be four) golden retrievers!

I am delighted to let you know that Cara Toback will be joining us again at Tanglewood in the BSAV office as the Volunteer Services Assistant!  It’s always great having returning staff, as they can jump right in, and it’s especially wonderful that it is Cara.  She is not only organized and personable, but also makes the summer fun. Welcome back Cara!
